Air Rifle

The air rifle has been redesigned, with a longer barrel, larger air supply, and a laser sight. I can now knock over a Quarter at 100 ft. Pictures to come.

Here is the original pnuematic rifle.

Here is a closup of the breech loading mechanism.

This is a pnuematic rifle that I built primarily our of PVC pipe. It uses compressed air switched by a sprinkler valve. It can shoot PaintBalls, Play Dough balls, or foam rubber tailed nuts. There is a tank made of 2" SCH 40 PVC which threads into the stock.

The right picture shows the breach loading feature of the pnuematic rifle. With a wood rasp I files out a hole in the barrel for the projectiles to be loaded. I then filed out a coupler so that it would slide over the hole, and seal it. This allows quick reloading and faster firing times.

I originally used thinwall 1/2" PVC for the barrel. It has a .7" inside diameter, which is convenient for firing .68 caliber PaintBalls! The thinwall is a bit floppy though, so I bought a section of Schedule40 3/4" PVC. This is much more sturdy, and has a inside diameter of .75". PVC pipe is labeled with the size of the inside diameter in its Schedule40 configuration. I Recently purches Schedule80 3/4 PVC. This is even more rigid, and now is back to the .7" rgang. The barrel shown in the picture is Schedule80 3/4" PVC pipe.

An ordinary electrical sprinkler valve is used to switch the air.
